About the Chamber
The Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce is a non profit voluntary organization of individuals and businesses supported by member’s fees and government contributions.
We are further supported though municipal contributions, and fundraising events.
The Chamber continues to promote the area in many ways. A recent analysis of the Chamber activities indicates the following:
- We receive approx. 10,000 calls on our toll free line
- We distribute mail outs in response to inquiries
- We respond to thousand of email inquiries yearly
- We greet more than 3,500 walk in inquiries per year
- Every Member is listed on our website
- We provide the opportunity for businesses to showcase their business
History of the Chamber
The Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce was originally formed as The Parry Sound Board of Trade on June 14th, 1897 and encompassed the Town of Parry Sound, McDougall Township and Foley Township. The original Board of Trade had 41 members which were said to be merchants, traders, mechanics, manufacturers, managers of banks, Insurance agents and residents. The name of the Parry Sound Board of Trade was later changed to the Parry Sound Chamber of Commerce.
In 1971 the Parry Sound Chamber of Commerce changed its name to the Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce and with it changed it’s boundaries to encompass the Town of Parry Sound, McDougall Township, Seguin Township (Foley), Carling Township, McKellar Township, Whitestone Township & the Township of the Archipelago.
While the Chamber has grown greatly in size since it’s formation in 1897 to a membership base of over 300 and a coverage area of seven municipalities one thing has always remained the same and that is to serve our local Business Community.
